We're at The Paddo in Brisbane on March 4
Broncos/Crushers launch on the eve of a return to two clubs in Brisbane.
THESE amazing three months in Australia for me are almost over.
There has been so much progress on so many fronts that it’s overwhelming. There is now a very real prospect of Two Tribes being turned into a movie or mini-series.
(I know that’s burying the lead but I have my reasons for not wanting to make a big deal of it)
However, all good things must come to an end and on Monday, March 6 I jet off back to London.
The date isn’t random. I have a history of going to the first competition game of new clubs and I wanted to be there for The Dolphins’ bow.
On Saturday, March 4 I’ll be doing the final book launch of this trip, the joint Broncos-Crushers shindig.
I’ve picked 4.15pm at The Paddo so I can briefly welcome everyone before the North Queensland-Canberra game begins on the big screen.
Then we can do the formalities in the breaks in that game and the following Cronulla-South Sydney clash-fixture!
ARL FAN’S LETTER OFFERS SUPER SUPPORT TO GREAT BRITAIN
Sun-Herald, Sunday November 9, 1997
By STEVE MASCORD
SUPER League's Australian touring side has been infuriated by an open letter from a member of an ARL supporters group to the Great Britain side wishing them luck and urging them to a 60-0 win over the visitors.
As peace talks continue in Sydney, the league war got ugly again when a letter purporting to be from Newcastle-based Aussies For The ARL was published in Rugby League Express magazine.
Super League described its contents as "unAustralian" and the ARL moved to distance itself from descriptions of the tourists as "scabs" and "traitors".
Sydney member Stuart Gillian said in the controversial letter: "The members of Aussies For The ARL (now more than 40,000 strong and dedicated to the retention of our traditional clubs) wish you, Super League Great Britain success in the game against the scab, traitor, pseudo league pretend Aussies.
"We, the real Australian Rugby League supporters, hope you soundly flog these second-rate pretenders. How does 60-0 sound?"
Australian players are believed to have been angered by the letter in LE’s letters section.
But ARL public relations officer John Brady said: "I have just been phoned by a representative of Aussies For The ARL who has dissociated herself from the letter."
